About us

Formerly Tayside Police Choir (founded 2010) and Strathclyde Police Choir (founded 2012), we have gone from strength to strength and with changes to the national police force, we became the Scottish Police & Community Choir in 2013.  We perform at fundraisers, charity functions, memorial events, weddings and celebrations of all kinds, both local and national.  In the past we have supported CHAS at Rachel House, Kinross, Scotlands Charity Air Ambulance, Playlist For Life , Guide Dogs for The Blind, Yorkhill Hospital, British Heart Foundation, Maggies Dundee and Perth Autism Support to name a few.

We currently have rehearsals in Perth (covers all of the Tayside, Fife, Central area) and Glasgow (covering Strathclyde area) and both sections meet up on a regular basis for a joint rehearsal with our Musical Director,  Debra Salem.  Dougie Flower is our visiting Assistant Musical Director and also the Perth rehearsal accompanist. Michael Allan is the Glasgow rehearsal accompanist.

About Debra

Debra Salem is based in Perth and is a music specialist. Debra brings energy, enthusiasm and a wealth of experience to our team and currently works with Horsecross Voices, Craigie Community Choir, Southern Fried Voices for the Southern Fried Festival and Clown Choir in Dublin amongst other projects.  She took her community choir to the BBC show Last Choir Standing in 2008 and more recently has led their performance in collaborations with Runrig, both live and on album.  Debra writes music for theatre, arranges, sings, teaches and is the Horsecross Talent Hub Co-ordinator for Scottish Traditional and Gaelic Music.

How do I join?

Come along to a rehearsal and see how you get on. If you like us and want to come and sing, then we will sign you up!

There is a simple vetting procedure to complete because we are a Police choir.

We have a low monthly subscription of £20. You will receive a choir T shirt (which we wear for our more low key performances) and the men will also be given a tie for more formal events.

This subscription also covers all rehearsal costs and some transport costs for events outwith our normal rehearsal area. It all covers some extra special events such as professional recording and bespoke workshops for the benefit of members.
